After having two weeks off due to wet and rainy weather, Dacotah Speedway was back in action on Friday, May 30th for Military Appreciation Night.
When the green flag waved in the Slingshot feature, young Otto Reuer grabbed the early lead. A caution on lap one regrouped the field and resulted in Caiden Davenport being sent to the tail end of the field. Davenport quickly drove through the field and challenged Reuer for the lead. However, a late race caution would change everything. Due to time limit, the race was cut short. Caiden Davenport crossed the finish line ahead of Otto Reuer to pick up his second feature victory of the season. Weston Uranker finished third while Landen Hallgren finished fourth ahead of Libby Keller.
Pole sitter Karlie Hoerner led the field to the green flag in the Hobby Stock feature. Outside pole sitter, Mitch Gordon, grabbed the early lead but Hoerner retook the lead on lap three. As the laps wound down, Karlie would have her hands full with defending track champion, Bill Hultberg, and Josh Roehrich. As Hultberg and Roehrich raced hard for second, it allowed Hoerner to pull away in the closing laps. When the checkered flag waved, Karlie Hoerner crossed the finish line first. Bill Hultberg held off Josh Roehrich to finish second. Derrick Appert finished fourth while Joseph Feist rounded out the top five.
There were two distinct racing grooves for the INEX Legends, the bottom and the top. When the green flag waved, the high line led by young Ty Olson and Preston Martin was the fast line while Noah Madler and his brother, Gage Madler, fought hard along the guardrail. It was a thrilling four car battle for the lead. However, late race contact between Olson and Martin allowed the Madler brothers to clear the top positions. As the white flag waved, Gage was all over Noah’s rear bumper. But a last lap mistake by older brother, Noah, allowed Gage to slip by and grab the victory. Ty Olson held on to finish third ahead of Preston Martin. Defending track champion, Donavin Wiest, finished fifth.
In the IMCA Stock Car feature, Casey Binstock and Marlyn Seidler sat on the front row. Coming to the green flag, Seidler grabbed the early lead and quickly pulled away from the field. A mid-race caution erased Seidler’s large lead on the field. On the restart, Scott Gartner and Matt Dosch were all over Seidler’s rear bumper. Gartner slipped by on lap 11, forcing Seidler to find a new racing line. Seidler retook the lead on lap 13 and pulled away once more. Gartner then fell into the clutches of Dosch and fourth place Andrew Jochim. When the checkered flag waved, Marlyn Seidler picked up his first victory of the season. Matt Dosch finished second ahead of points leader, Andrew Jochim. Scott Gartner slipped to fourth place ahead of fifth place Brock Beeter.
In the final feature of the evening, it was not only a race for the win, but a race against the weather as rain in the distance was starting to settle in. Pole sitter Caden Robert led early before defending track champion, Shawn Strand, took the lead on lap two. Strand quickly distanced himself from the field but as the laps wound down, Mark Dahl started to cut into Strand’s lead. By lap 10, Dahl was challenging Strand for the lead. They raced side by side, door to door for several laps. However, lapped traffic made it an exciting race for the win as the leaders sliced and diced their way around the slower cars. Coming to the white flag, Dahl cleared Strand for the top position. However, as they raced back to the checkered flag, Shawn Strand just narrowly edged Mark Dahl for the win. Points leader Jeremy Keller finished third ahead of Travis Tooley and Logan Schmitz.
